The Overeaters Anonymous Program

The Overeaters Anonymous Program

Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women from all walks of life who meet in order to help solve a common problem – compulsive overeating, which includes obesity, anorexia and bulimia  The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.

The Overeaters Anonymous Program

OA is a non-profit international organization with approximately 8,500 meeting groups in over 50 countries throughout the world.

Patterned after the Twelve-Step Alcoholics Anonymous program, the OA recovery program addresses physical, emotional and spiritual recovery aspects of compulsive overeating.

OA is not a diet club, and makes no claims for weight loss.  Each OA member should consult qualified professionals for their individual diet/nutrition plan, any medically approved plan of eating is acceptable.

By admitting inability to control our compulsive overeating and abandoning the idea that all one needs to be able to eat normally  is "a little willpower," it becomes possible to abstain from overeating - one day at a time. OA offers members support in dealing with the physical and emotional symptoms of compulsive overeating.

Overeaters Anonymous has no dues or fees for membership. It is entirely self-supporting through contributions and sale of publications. Most groups "pass the basket" at meetings to cover expenses. OA does not solicit or accept outside contributions.

July 2016 Intergroup Meeting Minutes

Good Fine Day, Region 5 Intergroups,

Today at the Region 5 Assembly we discussed various ways Intergroups can carry the message that recovery from compulsive eating is possible through Overeaters Anonymous. We created three suggest goals that your intergroup may strive to achieve within 12 months. Lynn H from Milwaukee lynnhlly2@sbcglobal.net will be reaching out to your intergroup to following up your progress.

Here are our suggested goals: Please pick at least one, but if one is good, imagine how great 3 would be!

 1. Each Intergroup will attend at least one health fair in the next 12 months.
(This will pertain to groups that can absorb the cost)

2. Each Intergroup will print and post 5 “Cut and Tear” posters from the OA.Org website and post them in local businesses   such as hospitals, libraries, doctor’s office, gyms, institutions, and universities.

3. Each Intergroup will contact at least one local community newspaper to add a small blurb on OA which links readers to the OA.org website.

Finally, we would like to remind each Intergroup that the Region 5 Public Information and Professional outreach committee has $500 available to assist Intergroups in achieving the above listed goals.

Should you have any questions or concerns please contact Lynn @ lynnhlly2@sbcglobal.net
